Popcorn – Cougar Style

Yes, we all get those cravings for a snack now and then.  So, it’s a great idea to have a few ideas ready for when that craving strikes!  One of my all-time favorite snacks is popcorn, but movie theater popcorn is just about deadly and even microwave popcorn is not the healthiest choice on the planet.  So what’s a girl to do??

Ah-ha!  I found a solution to this very dilemma while visiting one of my skinny friends last week.  While cozied up absorbing two action flicks back to back, we naturally all got the munchies and she and her husband suggested popcorn.  I thought – perfect .. too bad it’s not air-popped.

Well, turns out that it kind of was “air-popped” … but in the microwave!  This was exciting news for me!  Turns out they had discovered the Nordic Ware Popcorn Popper; a microwaveable plastic popcorn popper!

The popper is BPA and Melamine free, and can hold up to 12 cups of popped popcorn.  You can make it with or without oil (I do it without).  All you need is regular popcorn kernels.  You put about 1/3 cup in the bowl; add a small sliver of butter (or butter spray) and microwave for 3 minutes.  Viola!  Done, add salt if desired, and snack away.  Three cups of popcorn only has 93 calories, 18.7 grams of carbs, and 1.1 gram of fat.  It even has 3.1 grams of protein and even 3.5 grams of fiber!  Not bad for a “mindless” snack that will take the edge off.

A big thanks to my friends for my new popcorn popper and contributing to my healthy ways!

Fantastic–I love this! We add a little salt and then some regular pepper gives it a gourmet taste.

So true! And there are so many possibilities with spices, maybe even some light parmesan cheese, or even a kettle corn flavor 🙂
