It’s that time of year again when you get to dress up for Halloween and be anything you want to be. Yes, it’s time to let your imagination run wild and to outfit yourself as a fun cartoon character, a sexy vixen, a female warrior or whatever it is you desire. Let your inner diva shine!
So, I got to thinking about Halloween and how fun it is to dress up every year and go out and have a great time pretending to be Cat Woman or Xena Princess Warrior, a Sexy Cop or a Sorceress, and then it hit me … why do I have to pretend to be something that I wish I were? Why not just be what you want to be?
We probably all want to feel strong, sexy, capable, intelligent, witty, beautiful, fun-loving and more. The good news is that you don’t need a costume to feel this way and to act this way. I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage “act as it” or “fake it until you make it.” Nothing could be more true. What is the difference, after all, in the feeling you get from pretending to be strong and successful and the feeling you get from actually being strong and successful?
There is no difference.
The mind does not know the difference between the thoughts you give it and reality. So, use this to your advantage. Carry yourself a little differently today. Imagine that you already are the way you want yourself to be. If you want to be slimmer and more fit, visualize yourself already being that way now and carry yourself accordingly.
Interestingly enough, your mind will seek to close the gap between what you strongly and repeatedly visualize and what you currently are. Consider this: if you fake being a smart sexy successful woman who is proud of her physique and you walk around pretending to be this person every day, all day … at what point are you no longer pretending … and you actually are that person?!
Remember, this Halloween, you can dress up and be anything and anyone you want to be. And, most importantly, remember that this new person inside does not have to go away on November 1st. Become what it is that you wish you were. Adopt the qualities and characteristics of the superhero or the diva you admire. There is no reason that you can’t start acting differently right now.
Again, changing the way you look at yourself will change the way you act and carry yourself. You can change anything you want to, but first, you have to change your mind. Napoleon Hill said it best, “whatever the mind can conceive and believe, you can achieve.”
Who will you be this Halloween and moving forward?
