Break Time

With the Burn The Fat Holiday Challenge coming to a close, it’s time to take a nice healthy break. After seven weeks of being completely “ON” twenty-four-seven, 100%, I will be taking two weeks to unwind, relax, and de-stress!

It’s important to schedule regular breaks and time off into your overall workout regimen. As we know, when you lift heavy at the gym, that is not the time you gain muscle. You gain muscle while you’re at rest; repairing your body.

So, if they say “abs are made in the kitchen”, does that mean “muscles are made in the bedroom”?!! Well, I think you get the idea! It’s important to get your rest and allow your body to repair itself and build the muscle tissue. It’s also important for you to allow yourself to de-stress, calm your mind, and chill out.

Some people regularly take a full week off from the gym. This does not mean a free-for-all eating-wise. This just means a chance for your muscles to recharge.

It’s equally good to keep your body guessing about what’s next. Your body is an incredible and amazing machine. We all know that if you keep calories low indefinitely, that over time, your body will lower your metabolism to conserve energy. That’s why it’s best to zig-zag your calories (a story for another day!).

Well, it’s the same principle at the gym. Your body will adapt to whatever you’re doing on a regular basis. So, in order to continue to make muscular gains, it’s important to take some time off and rest up. Then, when you do get back to the gym, you will be fully re-charged and ready to go!!
