My Gratitude Journal
Today is Tuesday, also known as “Tude-Day”. It’s a great day to take a few minutes and notice what your attitude is. I usually wake up in a thankful mood and start the day off relatively happy. However, life can step in and before you know it, your mood plummets and now you’re grouchy. What happened? Well, most likely, you started focusing on all something negative. Then, that probably snowballed into you focusing on other negative things going on in your life. Before you knew it, everything was going wrong and nothing in your life was ever right!
How does this happen? It all boils down to what you focus on.
If you are constantly focused on the negative, that’s what you’ll notice. If you’re constantly focused on the positive, then that’s what you’ll notice. So, what a gratitude journal helps you do, is focus on all the great things in your life. [pullquote]Everything starts with a thought, and a thought can be changed.[/pullquote]Writing them down puts even more weight on their value. It’s hard to stay in a bad mood when you’ve got all these awesome blessings written out right in front of you. When you realize just how lucky and blessed you are, often your bad mood will evaporate.
Stay positive! It’s important to take note of your attitude and your thoughts throughout the day. If you notice yourself having a mean or negative thought, change your thought immediately!
It’s a good idea to have a couple great images in your head, or fond memories that you can switch your thoughts to, when noticing you’re headed in a negative direction. You can only have one thought in your head at a time, so if you are thinking something positive, you can’t be thinking something negative. Alternatively, if your mind is occupied with negative, you won’t have space for a positive thought, until you change it.
Be conscious of your attitude. It takes time, desire to change, and forming new habits to ingrain the new positive thoughts into your life. However, with a little practice, it will start to come naturally to you. Remember the saying, “It’s all in your head.”? Well, it is.
Everything starts with a thought, and a thought can be changed. Use this knowledge to stay grateful and stay positive throughout your day. You, alone, have the power to control your mood and change your attitude.
So, notice your attitudes, moods, and thoughts today. Are you being positive or negative?
